Inspired by Frank Gehry
After 91 years on this planet - most of them committed to pondering and manifesting singular architectural buildings - world-renowned architect Frank Gehry’s inspiration weaves its way into many lives around the world. When our client wanted to infuse Gehry’s signature non-linear, anti-geometric design into her home, we said “YES”! Though the scale of the project was limited to a new custom kitchen and front entry in her loft style condo in the South End, we sought to transform a pedestrian but necessary soffit into a dramatic Gehry-esque statement. The gentle waves and stepped curves provide needed cover for the sprinkler manifold and HVAC components protruding from the ceiling, while imbuing the otherwise rectilinear forms of the space with some whimsy and grace. The white veining in the backsplash echoes what soars above it. A little piece of the Guggenheim in the center of Boston.
